IPac4 on a new computer

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new desktop, so I'd like to put my old desktop (from 2009) into my MAME cabinet. (The computer in there is from 2002). I was using MAMEWAH, but since the new machine is running 64 bit Windows 7, it looks like I'll have to use MaLa, which is fine.

My real question deals with my IPAC4. It's the PS/2 version, but the 2009 computer only has USB ports. Can I buy a small PS/2 to USB connector and it work without any issues? Additionally, the IPAC4 should have saved all of my keyboard mapping, correct?

I'm hoping to get the front end running, plug in the CP and be good to go. As it usually goes with these things, that's probably not going to happen.

I've searched through these forums and have gotten conflicting information. Sometimes it seems to work, sometimes it doesn't! Any help is appreciated, especially from someone who's done this before.

Here's what Andy has said about it in the past:

All I-PACs are USB devices. They will switch into PS/2 if connected to a PS/2 port though. So if you have the PS/2 cable with it, you would need either the USB cable we sell or an adaptor. Make sure its an adaptor which only changes the connector type. Dont use a converter which will cause the I-PAC to run in PS/2 mode then convert the protocol to USB as these converters dont work adequately for gaming.
