CHD version help
« on: July 18, 2012, 11:21:55 am »
Alright so I have Mame 0.119s installed and all of my roms work fine except for the ones that required chd files. So I went and found a 500 gig download of all of the chd files except that once it was done downloading none of them work. I think it would be because they are version .145 vs the mame version .119s. Does this make any sense and is there any way I could do something to get them working? I will admit that I am very noobish to the mame idea so I don;t know too much. I tried looking at ClrMamePro and was completely overwhelmed by the information.

Why don't you just grab the latest version of MAME and the roms/CHDs that go with it?  Heck they're already on .146 so that huge CHD batch you downloaded is already a version behind (I don't think it makes a great deal of difference but I believe there was a format change with the CHDs going from .145 to .146).

I know this is a touchy subject, so forgive me because I am not trying to break any forum rules, but how do all you guys "just get new full sets" for .146 and such? torrents? is that how you all are doing it?

thanks in advance, I am really trying to get this software side done so I can feel good about moving forward on my "Vigo-lix-ish" cab.

To address your first problem, its likely that its the name of the CHD that has changed between 119 and the current version.  To determine if this is your issue, run Mame from the command line and note the name of the CHD that is "missing" when the game won't load.  Then navigate to the folder that contains the CHD (should match the rom name exactly) and rename your CHD (right click) to match the file your version of mame expects to see.

How do you actually update the CHD's with the newest version of chdman? It's different from the previous versions. It's saying I'm missing roms or chd file. I think it may be my problem.

Just to let people know there is a bug when updating your CHD's with .146 using windows. Don't do it! Everyone says that Linux seems to be ok though.

What are some CHD games that a) actually work without a supercomputer, and b) are worth a damn?

I got SF3 and Simpsons Bowling working recently—and I’m glad I did—but I’m wondering what everybody else’s favorites are in case there are others I should investigate.
