hooking up CPS II PCB to a 19" LCD monitor
« on: October 05, 2003, 06:02:17 pm »
Hi,

I want to get this:

http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/pcb/SNK_Vs_Capcom_%3A_Chaos_3253.html

But, I have no idea of how you would hook this PCB to a regular PC 19" LCD monitor. Is it even possible first of all? What cable would I need and also how would you power up this board anyways. I have no experience with PCB's before.

Does anyone have a picture layout of how does a CPS II PCB looks like? I want that board because I want to be able to make a 4 player cab.

Also, i know that it's JAMMA, but JAMMA is only for 2 players. How do you hook up another 2 players to the board?

First off its not a CPSII board

Second you going to need to figure out the pinout of your monitor ... Red, Blue, Green, Ground, Video Sync  ;D

You'll need a arcade power supply and JAMMA harness and 8ohm speakers assuming you want sound.

... the game is two player not four player ::)

oops... I meant this one:

http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/pcbs/capcom_cps_ii/Dungeons_%26_Dragons%3A_Shadow_Over_Mystara_95.html

But, anyways. Yea and that one too. (SNK vs Capcom: CHAOS) Isn't there a device that converts the PCB video out into a monitor signal or do I just plug wires straight into the montor plug when I found out what wires are for  RED, Blue, Green, Ground, Video Sync.

Well if you can fork over the dough, here's two convertors listed that will go from arcade to vga, http://www.russprince.com/cabinet/jamma.html

Maybe try here:

http://www.sgrepository.com

The site is pretty new and a little light on content so far, but it may be worth looking into.  These guys are more into converting arcade pcb's to home setups, rather than MAME cabinets/controllers.  Just browsing their examples pages I've gotten a couple cool ideas for the supergun I'm going to build.

Also realize that almost any conversion solution will cost you as much (or more) as a working 19" Jamma cabinet (with monitor) just to stick the board inside in the first place. (I have owned 9 Jamma cabinets in my lifetime, costing a total of $485, average purchase price was just over $50).

A week or two of searching should turn you up one in the $75-$125 range. Heck, someone sold an AWESOME looking Heavy Barrel JAMMA cabinet on here with with extra parts for $200 just last week.

That LCD monitor of yours is not the proper resolution for the game, and the game will have to be zoomed in at like a factor of 9 just to fill the screen, it won't look right, no matter how you do it.

Also, CoinOpExpress has a like $400 minimum order, you have to pay by Bank Transfer, and shipping is very expensive from Asia. Also, just because their website says they have something in stock does not mean that they actually have it.

I learned all that when I attempted to buy a Uo Poko boardset from them, at least the saleman (salesgirl actually), was nice, and they have sent me Christmas cards ever since.

no idea where else you can get this  :P
However, this will solve the video problem.

OR you can just get a supergun from masystems.com and hook up to a tv.
OR play D and D shadow masharra blah for FREE ! ! on MAME ! :D

Here's another option that may help out.
It says it's a TV Tuner box, but it is more usefull as a conversion between composite, s-video, NTSC and VGA

Might be of use to someone.

http://www.earthlcd.com/video.htm

Input connectors:
     NTSC/PAL/SECAM (Female type)
     Composite video (RCA terminal)
     S-video
     Line in
     VGA mini D-sub (Female)
AV audio R/L channels (RCA terminal)
     + 12V DC jack
Output connectors:
     VGA mini D-Sub (Male)
     Audio phone jack
     Line out
     Infrared
