high-ball trackball with standard mounting plate
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:15:05 am »
i just recently pulled the trackball of my base cabinet i'm using for my project (a 2009 silver strike bowling cab) and i came to find out that the mounting plate is like 7.5 inches wide instead of 6.5, and would require a little bit of modification to make it work, plus my mameroom control panel blank already has the bolt holes drilled for the standard 6.5 inch wide mounting plate (non-high ball).  after thinking it over for a while, i decided it's probably better to just go ahead and order the standard mounting plate rather than go through the trouble of re-drilling holes .5 inches from the current ones, trying to get those PERFECTLY equidistant so my plexi will still work, AND i'd have to grind one side down so it doesn't invade the routing done for the ultrastiks.  so yeah, i wanted to ask if i'm able to use a standard 3 inch mounting plate with a high-ball trackball or would i be better off just making the current highball mounting plate work.

if your trackball is 3", i wouldn't see why you couldn't use a standard mounting plate.  could you post some picks of your trackball assembly?

if it is a highball, my guess is the top housing of the mechanics has been removed.  personally i use the groovygamegear collar around teh trackball and ditched the surface mounting plate
