Sega Model 3 conversion or better alternative

Hi all,

I'd like to make a mame station out of a Virtua Striker 2 '98  (Sega Model 3).
Hopefully, it seems the monitor can be switched from 25Khz to 15Khz.
Until now I always used the Jpac + ArcadeVGA solution for the simplicity because I always dealt with Jamma compatible arcade cabinets.

As the Virtua Striker is not Jamma, I was wondering what is the best solution ?

I was thinking about buying a Jamma connector and do the wiring connections in order to 'convert' the Model 3 to Jamma so I can plug the Jpac.
But finally it seems to be a lot of work in order to use an expensive solution.

Anyone have an idea of better solution I'm not thinking of ?

i'm a newbe and my suggestion is only theorical: couldn't you just use an I-PAC + a vga-cga converter (like this one: http://www.starcab.net/product_info.php?cPath=35_64&products_id=922)?

It's not really cheaper (mmh actually it's even a bit more expensive ) but it could save you from soldering...

Well I guess the problem is that it will output in interlace and the image will suffer of some flickering :
Output CGA Signal: 480i@60 Hz

Could someone tell me if I'm wrong ?

Well, if it works it can spare the cost of an Arcade VGA but 640x480 interlace in order to display 320x200 is not an option imho.

Anyone here ever converted a Sega to Jamma ?

It isn't that hard. Go in and rip out all the wiring other than the AC power wiring, then take a brand new labeled jamma harness and rewire. I have rewired several dozen machines, it is not difficult and the original machine type is not relevant. You can also just rip out the original wiring and rewire for an encoder from scratch and not use a jpac.

You will have to run CGA resolutions with an arcadeVGA or one of the various software solution if you don't replaced the monitor. 95 percent of what you would want to emulate would be a native CGA resolution anyway.
