MAME not recognizing hacked USB gamepad?
« on: June 18, 2012, 12:19:26 pm »
I hacked a game pad from Amazon, thread here http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=120797.0.

The issue is that Windows sees all the buttons (when touching the wires together since i haven't mounted the buttons yet), but when i get into MAME32 and open any game, hit tab to get to menu, and try and adjust controls, the game pad doesn't register any of the wire touches...

I got frustrated and haven't tried to configure the controllers in my other emulators yet, but MAME is the one that I really wanted to get working.

Any ideas? did i miss something when doing my research and not configure something right? or have i just messed up the game pad?

I did get MALA to recognize the game pad and had it configured to work basically, and since windows recognized all the button presses i just assumed that MAME would work too.

Your gamepad probably isn't working because the default mame configuration has gamepad and mouse control turned off for some ridiculous reason.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Have you tried the JoytoKey program? "keyboard emulator for joysticks.
It converts joystick input into keyboard input" I used this for some of my pc games that don't accept controllers. http://joytokey.webs.com/

Yep, very useful for frontends not handling gamepads either (like mGalaxy)

Just remap it in Mame.cfg
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I use Mame32 Plus and to change the configuration of the gamepads under; "OPTIONS" then "DEFAULT GAME PROPERTIES" and finally "CONTROLLERS" tab. Just make sure you have enabled joystick input and that the proper controllers ID is set.
