Once again I find myself staring at more than one nice looking black and white cabinet that is probably never going to work right (in this case a Gremlin Hustle and a Ramtek Hit Me).
Both are complete, both have working monitors. Both major issues. Hit Me regulates it's own power onboard and isn't making the +12 like it is supposed to be doing, and is a terrible terrible game. While Hustle is losing the voltage in the power supply somewhere after it makes +19 and -19 from the wall socket but somewhere before it spits out +5, +12 and -12. It also refuses to cooperate with the two different switching power supplies I have tried to wire in and while not terrible, it is far from being a classic.
If I sent out the boards to either one of these things for repair the bill would be more than what the machines are even worth (and that matters because I couldn't see myself keeping either one forever).
Once again I find myself considering doing a black and white mame cabinet. An old TV out card can actually directly drive those old black and white monitors.
But what sort of control panel layout would be optimal for the relatively wide class of horizontal Black and White games, and which of the two cabinets should I use.
