Many things make a game great... Ideas, controls, programming and graphics to name a few.  No one likes eye candy without a great game behind it, but all the Games of the Day (GOTD) on my blog are already games I love.  So, these are selected from those GOTDs as the ones I think have the best or most unique or most interesting graphics.  To remind you, all these games had to be GOTDs already, so you won't see Tempest or Metal Slug here (although deserving) - they are too popular and will never be a GOTD on my blog.  This now joins the other Halls of Fame on my blog (Rage-Inducing, Must Play, 2 Player Vs., Cool Controls and Weird Games).

Nice list. But it needs Progear No Arashi!  Heck, any of the Cave games....but Progear was the one that really captured me. Just the lift-off sequence alone is very impressive.

Steam-punk goodness FTW.

Yes.  He is making all kinds of cash on his blog that doesn't have a single advertisement.  Did your parents have any kids that lived?

You're right.  I am not smart.  Do you really think he is making money from that blog?

I dunno. I think his blog is pretty nice. It's shown me a number of games I'd not seen before.

And I don't know whether he's actually selling any of those products he's featured, but I do know several of them are actual products offered from full-on companies. And it looks like at least of few of the links couldn't contain affiliate info.

Bottom line, if he's making enough to even pay for the hosting of the site, it'd surprise me. But, eh, what do I know  :dunno

How much money do you make on click throughs from constantly whoring your blog out here?  Enough to be worth competing with you?

I make no money and have no ads.  Additionally, I have nothing to do with the products I feature, I just like them (and have bought several of them).  Sorry for your cynical ass that you assume my "whoring" is an attempt to make money.  In fact, all I want to do is share the fun times that gaming has given me for so many hours and so many years.  The reason I occasionally post here is when I have added a new feature to the blog that I figure guys will be more interested in.  I post almost every day (Games of the Day are most of the blog), but every once in a while I do a "Hall of Fame" or some other feature or graphic that I know is more interesting to more people - therefore I post about it here to give every one a chance to see it who might be interested before it scrolls further down the blog list (most guys only look at the first page).  Besides, if you don't like the blog or that I post about it here, why do you visit it and check out my threads?

To the rest of you guys who are cool and supportive, I hope you like the blog and from time to time are able to find a fun game that you didn't know of before.

You sound smart.

Those aren't advertisements, they are my own independent blog posts and links.  I have no relationship with any of the sellers and they don't have any knowledge or tracking that I sent them if you click on it.  I get no money and have no interest in any of the products.  I simply like this crap and thought I'd spread the word.  Geez, can't you cynical folks imagine just for a moment that I the only reason I do the blog is because it's fun?  And the only reason I post about it here is to share the fun....

Not much apparently.  Blogspot's free.

I can certainly imagine that, but you also post a lot of provocative threads that contain little more than a link to your blog.  If you're not monetizing it, then... well... maybe you just like seeing traffic reports?

 :dunno

So then, being self-named "Pinballjim", you'll probably really be annoyed and confused that I do lots of custom pinball instruction cards and give them away for free - they've been downloaded more than 10 thousand times...  http://pinballcards.blogspot.com/

Touche! So it is.

Well, I for one would love to see a "PinballJim Game of the Day" (or whatever you might want to call it). And if you want to monetize it with a few ads, or whatever, I don't see a problem with that. Heck. There's a lot of work that goes into posts like that. Why not make a few bucks off it? As long as the content's good, the ads won't matter.

I for one am glad to see pinzach's posts here.  His blog is a great source for hidden mame treasures that I would have never played otherwise.  I would much rather log into this site and get a link to some nice overlooked mame titles than the negative, cynical posts made by some (unnamed) members.  Keep up the good work and thanks for all the great game write ups you have done.

+1.   :applaud: :stupid

Without Zach's posts, I never would have known that there's a game called Risky Challenge that combines Tetris and Lemmings.   :dizzy:

I think his site is great for anyone who wants to sample interesting parts of MAME that they would never notice.  Nothing wrong with burgers and mac-and-cheese, but once in a while it's fun to try some escargot, chateaubriand, or bulgogi.

How much money do you make on click throughs from constantly whoring your blog out here?

Zach's threads in the forums (about 1-2/week) aren't even remotely numerous enough to call it spamming or whoring.

I'm always glad to see someone who is taking the time and effort to generate original positive commentary.   :applaud:

Ain't nothing about his site monetary - maybe a link or two to something you can purchase but I don't even know if he get's a piece of that (and it's not much if he does).  Blogspot pretty much throws the ability to put Adsense all over your site (on the right and in-between posts). I don't see any of that on his site. And all his content is original and actually interesting (have never heard of Wiz Warz but now I want to fire it up and try it out.)

Pinzach, very well done blog. Keep it up.  :applaud:

Hall of Fame/Game of the Day is great.  When I want to play something different, I know that there is a site that can give me a tip on something different.

Wow this thread took a sharp turn.

Zach, I like your blog a lot, and I respect your passion and dedication to it (including not turning a buck on it, unlike a well known forum that starts with a B, and ends in a C ;) ).

Pbj's just being pbj, stick around long enough and you'll figure him out. Besides he's just trying to push 10,000 posts :lol

*trying to get back on track: Street Fighter III needs to be up there too. Probably the best character animation in a 2D game of all time!
