Booming Arcade World In Japan
« on: June 04, 2012, 08:17:13 am »
I didn't realize that Japan still has a booming Arcade world. I think in the video I even saw a 13 story building with floors dedicated to a players gaming level. In America it is people like us that even try to keep it alive around consoles like Xbox, PS3 and the Wii.

Japanese arcades are prob'ly still in existance due to the fact that there is less "to do". Being a relatively small country with a large population, real estate is limited. So they don't have teh option of huge sprawling golf courses, giant theme parks all over the place, etc. They also seem to value human interaction a bit more than we do....another reason to have a place to play games with friends.

Good point :-)

There are multiple explanations in this article and there will be even more in the final documentary...

Ever been to an arcade in Japan? ...it is not filled with the age group of guys you would find duffing it out on the golf course. It is a high school hangout, maybe some college students as well.

The japanese arcade scene is shrinking as well. It is the biggest in the world, but much smaller than the american scene during the classic era and even past that, and it has been getting smaller every year for a long time.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
