Need BLUE Japanese Ball Top Joystick
« on: October 02, 2003, 01:20:00 am »
Ok guys, I am building my friend a joystick but he likes ball top joystick. Don't ask me why, he says they feel more comfortable. Well, I went to Ultrimarc but all they had was the color red. Does anyone here know a place where I can get a BLUE or BLACK (preferably BLUE) J-Ball Top Joystick. No not white, not red, not yellow, no not purple, BLUE!!! Thanx.

-See Ya!!!

P.S.: Sorry for all the yelling but I asked this in another forum and they kept giving me links to places with different joysticks and colors, this place OWNS why would I go anywhere else, I was stupid.

Also if you don't know what a Japanese ball top joystick looks like, it looks like this:

Yeah, my Capcom FP stick is like the only one that I've seen.  I had 4 blue ball tops that have come through me.  I sold one stick as parts to one guy, built one for a friend, and have one last blue ball top left in my stock (Sanwa)

Sanwa and Seimitsu sticks are interchangable balls. You can order them from Sanwa, but go figure for yen conversion, shipping, handling etc.

I'm getting together an order for Sanwa. You are looking for a LB-35 B, K or DB for Darkblue. The yen conversion makes it little more than a buck. I'm talking to them right now for pricing but may or maynot go through with the whole thing depending on how much it ends up costing. I see why andy only goes with one color. It's kinda a hassle.

It would be good if he could. However, somehow I doubt it. The Japanese ball tops (both Sanwa and Seimitsu) have a metal insert into which the main shaft threads. I'm guessing that this insert would be fairly hard to reproduce. However, I suppose there's no harm in sending him an email.

Incidentally, you can actually buy blue, green, pink, and red Seimitsu ball tops from Suzo (UK).

Hey, thanks a lot guys for all your help. I was just wondering, can you wire these sticks like you normally do for a regular joystick or does this thing need like a power supply and all that kind of stuff. I need to know this info. Sorry for being such a bother. Thanx.

I think that stick uses photo electronic switching and needs a power scorce to operate. Probably Japans answer to the P-360.

I guess I'm pointing out the obvious, but couldn't you just spray paint the joystick ball to whatever color you please?

Sure you could, as long as you never planned on actually using the stick. Otherwise the paint would wear off, and quickly.

Of course I totally don't understand the obsession with "I need my stick this color", since nearly every game ever made had either red or black sticks. Of course there are some exceptions, but if you ever look in someones parts box (check mine if you wish), you will find almost nothing but red and black sticks.

Now, with all that said. I wouldn't mind a pair of white Wico balltops, but I am not going to go special ordering.

It's probably someone that's more styled after the japanese arcade market where the ball tops had various popular colors, Red and Black being the less common.

Negativo... Use plastic primer, paint... and use several light coats of clear coat.

OSCAR did it on his bartop "happy hour" I wonder if one could dye it, but I think you'd end up with a purple knob (HA! ROFL) if you tried to dye a red knob, blue...
