Joystick size on Defender?

Could someone with a real Defender or Stargate take a couple of measurements on his/her control panel?  I'd like to know how "tall" the joystick is (as measured from the surface to the top of the ball.  Also, I'd like to know the "throw length" (how far does the stick move from full back to full forward)?

I'm trying to substitute an available ball joystick rather than shell out $49 for a replica of the original.  (This is for a prototype CP before I commit to spending the big bucks.)
