Driving Controls
« on: May 15, 2012, 01:39:00 pm »
Hi All,

As of about 2 weeks ago I got myself a driving cabinet (a project post will follow at some point when i've got somewhere) and firstly, i need to identify the controls and decide how to approach the project.

The steering wheel itself is very very worn and will need replacing, but actual functionality seems to be OK. It is linked up through gears (that are nicely greased and look to be OK - no jokes!) to a potentiometer. But either side of the shaft are large-ish transformers that I presume are for providing some sort of force feedback? Is this assumption correct, and if so - how to do I wire?

Many thanks,
James

Got and pictures? Labels or names on any of the parts? What game is it from originally?

Answers to those will be a good start as to how to hook it up.

Also here is some good reading to get you going.

Here's a thread that may help.

Details on the SPECIFIC type of cab or at absolute minimum pics will help greatly.

Once you identify the specific game, you can find information about the game and  the manual here:

Wow, fast reply and some great links there! Thanks very much. I will provide pics later. Unfortunately it's not a known cab as such. It's manufactured by BAS and is an enclosed driving cab, in need of some TLC. It has Jamma fittings. Is this any use? Also, the transformers are actually solenoids. It looks like they may 'shake' the steering column?

Many thanks,
James
