P-chan's Pedestal is running Windows XP, Core 2 Duo 3.2 ghz, 4GB ram, 32GB SSD, and a GeForce 8600GT video card.

I would have chosen Windows 7 but I really wanted to use the 32GB SSD and 7 takes up at least 10 more GB than XP, so I stuck with XP.

Overkill for MAME, but I also want to be able to run Super Street Fighter IV Arcade on this machine :)

I have 2 U360s and eight Happ classic buttons per player - standard street fighter layout for the 6 play buttons, a P1 and P2 start, and a "25c" button for each side.  I'm just now configuring things so I have to figure out what key combination I will use for ESC and so on.

This is not a recommendation.  This is what I have because I used budget parts and what I had leftover from upgrading.
I have around $250 in each PC, not including the OS.
I was limited to a 90w CPU by the budget mobos.
All unnecessary services are turned off in XP, including networking.

Main setup (x-arcade in front of a tv): XP 32, 2.9Ghz Athlon X3, 2GB ram, 500GB Seagate, 8600GT - Plays Tekken 3 with no sound skips.  Chokes on NFL Blitz (XP64 would help).
Driving Cab: XP 64, 3.4Ghz Athlon X3, 2GB ram, 500GB HD, 8600GT video card - Plays California Speed, SF Rush at near 100%.  Chokes on Ridge Racer.
New Cab: Vista 64 (for directx 11), 3.4Ghz Athlon X3, 4GB ram, 500GB HD, 1.5TB HD, 8600GT video card - Haven't installed MAME yet.

My Alienware m14x laptop with an i7 plays Blitz, Gauntlet Legends, & Ridge Racer at 100% when it's not in for service.

I just recently swapped/upgraded my computer in my cab.

- Pentium dual core e6700 overclocked to 4ghz
- Asus p5qse mobo
- 500 gb Seagate hard drive
- 2 gb ram
- windows 7 64bit
- hd3450 vid card

This allows me to play everything up to blitz. Blitz runs 100 percent probably 98 percent of the time, very minor odd slow downs. No gauntlet legends though too slow.

My driving cab;
- core 2duo e3300 2.5 ghz (soon to be 3ghz once I get a free minute)
- asus p5g41
- 80 gig hard drive
- 4gb ram
- Windows xp 32 bit
- hd 3450 ( need to upgrade this for full speed model 3 emulation, but first need to find a powerful enough card that supports 15khz output somehow)

Edit: Came home and OC'ed the e3300 to 3.2 ghz and the cruisn games play fine again no need to install 64 bit windows (probably will in the future sometime). This chip is a good overclocker I was able to bump the fsb up to 256 with 12.5 multi to reach 3.2ghz on 1.256v. I was able to use an intel copper core heatsink and fan I had laying around and the temps are mid 60's max on full load. Just finished 10 passes of intel burn test on maximum now going to run prime95 for 24hr and call it stable.

A couple Weeks ago i was running the slower cpu in my standup cab but decided there were a lot more games i was missing out on then in my driving cabinet. Basically the only games i needed a fast processor for in my driving cab are the cruisn games which I'll still be able to play with the slower cpu once overclocked. Possibly even just install 64 bit operating system.

So for no real extra money (except a half decent cpu cooler) I was able to have all the games I had plus more by swapping the processors around.

As far as controls go I use sanwa jlf with octagon restrictors with happ competition buttons on one machine, happ supers with happ convex buttons on another, wico 8 way leaf with unknown brand leaf switches on the last.
