Flap Discs
« on: May 13, 2012, 11:57:04 pm »
Has anyone used flap discs on MDF before? They could be referred to as something different in other countries (I'm in Australia). Pretty sure they're only really meant for steel - but just curious as to whether or not anyone's used them on MDF (or any wood really) and what results you've had.

(In other words, I'm too tight to buy a sander)

Are you talking about the ones you use on an angle grinder? Because I just used one today, and it tore the ---fudgesicle--- out of the side of my fingertip.  :tool:
I can try it on MDF tomorrow.

Yeah the ones for the angle grinders. Yeah I'd recommend the MDF over the finger anyday.

I'm sure you could use it for some minor shaping, but it's going to take a lot of material off pretty quick.  What are you trying to do?

This.  Can you elaborate on what you're looking to do?

Fixing up my bodgy jigsaw work on the straights mainly. Though it's more a question of curiosity.

Use a combination of a hand plane and wood filler.

Plane down the high spots and then fill the low spots, then sand if needed.  A sharp plane should leave a smooth finish.
