Using Sanwa GT-Y Octo restrictor on Ultimarc U360?
« on: April 19, 2012, 03:29:37 pm »
Disclaimer: So far, I really love Ultimarc and Andy's been a great resource and has great customer service.  That said, there are some things (like international shipping) that are outside his control.

Reading this thread :

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64778.0

Gave me the idea.  Since I can get two GT-Y octagon restrictor plates for roughly $10 shipped here in the US, I think it's worth it to give it a shot at modding them rather than pay $14 each plus international shipping which would total at least $40+.

I haven't installed the sticks yet, I just got them in the mail the other night.  Will these work ok?  What will I have to do (if anything) to the stick/software other than tell it that there is an octagon restrictor on it?

elkameleon designed one: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=112204.0

Last I heard, Paradise Arcade Shop was also talking about making one.

You should have got the restrictors from Andy when your ordered your U360s (as well as stiff springs). The restrictors from Andy come with the appropriate stand-offs to install them on U360s, otherwise you'll have to rig something up.

I JUST found that link on my own.  Strangely enough, I have a good friend with a MendelMax 3D printer.  An email has already been sent to him with the .STL file attached and the request to print me a couple of em. :D

I completely agree, I should have ordered everything from Andy all at once.  I will probably eventually go back for the stiff springs as well.

I hope elkameleon's restrictor plate works!  I just realized in that thread that no one ever confirmed that the printed model worked on the stick in the first place.

I know, right?  I emailed elkameleon and it turns out he never got a chance to test it himself, so I'll be interested to see how it works.

I don't know what I'm going to do about "rigging something up" for the stand-offs to make it fit on the U360.

I could design the standoffs so you could have them printed, maybe someone has the dimensions for me? ;D

Note we can ship small items by mail at a lower cost. Takes a while longer to arrive though.

I may end up ordering straight from you anyway then, I don't mind the wait.  I just can't bring myself to spend as much on shipping as the item costs.  I've been spoiled by Amazon prime free 2-day shipping  ;)

Big props to Elkameleon who modeled the standoff and is modeling the nut for me later on this evening.  Pictures to come!

Yeah, my buddy is trying to print the standoffs as well, but is running into issues with the threads.  His printer just isn't accurate enough to get the thread pitch correct at this scale.  We're trying to work something else out.

Print them out without the threads and use a tap and die.

Probably be cheaper to order the parts from Andy, unless you happen to have a M4 tap and die on hand...

From what we're thinking, the standoffs can be any material, as long as they are the correct length to distance the circuit board from the bottom of the joystick.
