control panel wiring?
« on: September 29, 2003, 01:14:11 pm »
I have the games-x jamma harness.  I want to wire my control panel,  One thing I noticed is that each button has a spot for 3 wires.  I am assuming one is a ground, I "believe" that the harness has only one wire comming out for each button.

I am currently on a restricted network that isnt allowing me to view the main pages of this site and most other sites, as they are classifed as "games" and cannot be viewed.

I would appreciate any photos people have of dedicated cabs control panels.....or any other help they could give me in wiring of my control panel, I have 14 buttons and 2 joysticks.

THanks,

Mark

I'm sure this is on a website somewhere, but the short answer is your buttons (and joystick switches for all 4 directions) have three terminals labelled NO, NC and GND or Common.  Basically you connect the NO terminal to the harness input wire, and connect all the Common or GND terminals together and to the GND wire of the harness.

Long answer -

GND or Common - Ground connection.  Basically, the signal flow through the switch to this wire to complete the circuit.
NO - Normally Open - This is the one to use.  The circuit is normally not closed and sends an input when the button is pressed.
NC - Normally Closed - Generally not used.  The circuit will send an input continuously, UNLESS the button is pressed.

thanks, that helped!  I have another question now.....

I just wired up the buttons and joystick....it seems my wire harness doesnt have wires for 3 of my buttons.....  I believe the buttons would be the low kick low punch and jump button (on a mk3 panel)  Would I have to add wires to the empty nodes?(not sure if that what their called)...

Thanks,

Mark

MK3 needs whats referred to as an auxilary harness (kick harness for adding the Run, Low Punch, and Low Kick buttons)

this 15 pin connector attaches to J15 (if I remember correctly .... last header on the right hand side of the board)

the wires from this harness connect to those lower buttons ... same wiring technique applies.

If you don't use the wiring harness ... you will only have access to High Punch, Block, and High Kick ... the game is still playable but not very much fun that way  ;D

I wish I owned a digital camara and I could show you exactly what you need to do and how to go about doing it .... but at last ... I can't make myself spend the money on one when there are so many great JAMMA boards out there that I don't own yet .... lol ... talk about a quandary  ;)

So ya got UMK3 ... nice ... always a good quater muncher to get started with (plus no suicide battery to worry about either ... freakin Sega and Capcom ... argh!)  :D

So, is this what I am looking for?

Looks like it, or I think you could get by with the $7.50 harness described as:

Jamma *Plus**Kicks**Extra* harness complete
CP side only with ground loop and QDs
PCB side...SF/SFII/MK/MKII/MKIII/SSF/Etc

on www.therealbobroberts.com.  You might E-mail Bob to make sure, though.
