looking for a different style push button
« on: September 29, 2003, 11:57:23 am »
Hi,

I'm looking for some small push buttons for a new project I'm working on. I need buttons similar to the UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT/ENTER buttons on most TV universal remotes similar to the one in this picture:

I'd like to be able to use the buttons with an I-pac if possible.

Thanks,
jeff

No one that I know sells buttons like that, but you could cut up a remote and wire the buttons to an ipac.
There is SO a spoon.

That's a great idea. Would it be hard to do? I'm not really an electronics wizard by any means. It would be really nice to be able to get a remote with illuminated keys to chop up.

the first thing that comes to my mind is 1 of those older AT&T phones....

the keypad is sort like that and some models are lighted....

also.... AT&T phones (older styles...) are older technology...
that means the circuit board are bigger... bigger traces...
easier to hack... and maybe a little harder to break....

a phone like that I think costs about $10-20... (not sure...)

if you like to hack around.... and have some budget....
I guess that is not too bad....

hope it helps....
Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p

open it up, check out the circuit board, then find good places to cut it (because you need something left to solder to...)  and cut it.  I dunno about illuminating it, that might be hard without leaving the whole remote intact.  You could add an LED underneath the buttons.
