Electroplating Our Cabs
« on: April 10, 2012, 09:16:56 pm »
Looks like Ond had some really cool plating done for his awesome cab:http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=88912.msg1265659#msg1265659

I didn't want to jack his thread, so...

For anyone interested, Caswell Plating offers kits suited for the hobby market.  I've bought the anodizing and nickel plating kits... but my favorite has been the nickel! http://www.caswellplating.com/electroplating-anodizing/nickel-plating-kits/nickel-electroplating-kits.html  Nickel is a little more "yellow" than chrome, but man it looks good! :)

It isn't all that cheap, but I know some guys who have paid for their small plating setups by doing side jobs.  It really opens up a lot of possibilities for restorations, and custom work.

Reviving an old thread, but I saw this today:

http://www.instructables.com/id/High-Quality-Copper-Plating/

DIY electroplating. Nickel and copper

Seems like an easy project and the cost looks like less than $20, especially considering most this stuff is found around the house already.

I did it with pennies about twenty years ago too, so what? Let them have their fun.

Serious thread is serious.   :lol

Mostly I'm just bitter it never occurred to us to use copper wool.  It was quite an ordeal getting our hands on copper sulphate.
