On screen keyboard
« on: April 07, 2012, 06:00:15 pm »
Just done a quick search for this question and nothing turn up so here goes...

I`m playing about with some ideas in my head for my next project and have decided to make a small touch screen jukebox...The first issue i`m trying to tackle is that i`d like to use SPOTIFY... This is the UK version of music streaming service..I think its launched in america i`m not sure..
I would like this to be the main software on the jukebox...The problem is i`d need to use the "windows on screen keyboard" to input text into the search box on spotify....
Does anybody know how to make this on screen keyboard automatically pop up when ever you click in a text input box...I`ve look through all the settings and can`t find anything......

Thanks

Meph

If you using Windows 7 you can just use the built-in onscreen keyboard.  I use it on my juke with Etouch.

Open On-Screen Keyboard by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking On-Screen Keyboard.

Yeah I'm using windows 7, the on screen keyboard is great, but I only want it to pop up when I've clicked in a text entry box, I don't want it on the screen when just browsing spotify.
I'd like to be able to close the keyboard after text entry and for it to pop up again when needing to enter text again! Exactly like on an iPad ....is this possible

Yes, I would have to play with it to remember how I did it but on my juke box it minimizes off screen.  There is a tiny bar on the left side of the screen that I tap to bring the keyboard back out.  I enabled it just last week on my juke but haven't used it much yet so I can't remember exactly what I did.  But you can do what you want with it.

If you could tell me how you did that would be great. Im looking at all the options and don't see anything like that...
Hopefully windows 8 will be a bit more touch screen friendly

I'm not seeing any options here either on this PC.  If I get a chance tonight i'll boot up my juke and check the settings on there.

Actually I had forgotten about it.  I just looked this morning on my main PC and all I do is right click on the Start button and select properties.  Then I click on the toolbars tab and then enable Tablet PC Input Panel.  That's it.  Now I have a tablet icon on my task bar which will bring up the onscreen keyboard and when minimized its a small tab on the left middle of my screen, just offscreen.  It may be different with different versions of Windows 7.
