What about DVI inputs?
« on: September 28, 2003, 12:05:42 am »
Some of the newer TVs have DVI inputs, which can mean "Digital Video Interface", "Digital Video Input", "Direct Video Interface", or "Direct Video Input", depending on what you read.

Has anyone entertained the Mame-fications of this new input?

Thanks.

I went to bestbuy about a month ago... as i was considering a better Bigger display for my pc.

They let me bring in my pc and hook it up to a few of their higher end tvs.

My old ati radion 7000ve didnt seem to want to display using the DVI out to them... but this could also be because of incorrect settings and or also because it may be that DVI for PC's is different than the DVI for HDTV.

However... a bunch of the new tvs also had svga pc inputs : )   And I was able to pump my signal into those perfectly.

The first I tried was a Projection Tv with the new switching technology.  It wasnt bad... but the model they had only went to 1024*768.

The next one was a sony CRT hdtv... but it was even worse - as it only allowed for 640*480. (it actually installed a driver for it!)

Next was a Plasma Tv with 'Enhanced Resolution'.   The thing was like 4ft long and 1.5ft tall i think.   Anyway, it took the highest res my card could pump out... and it was sheerly AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   The pic was as clean and clear as my pc monitor... but was like having 3 monitors side by side!

I tested a side scrolling shooter on it... and it filled the enite screen.  Very sweet indeed.

However... the price was like 4000$ I think.  Way out of my range  : (

Also... while this is a great PC monitor alternative... its not an authentic look for most older arcade games because of its ultra high resolution.
