Leaf switches for Ultimarc's Mag-Stik Plus?
« on: March 30, 2012, 06:50:26 pm »
I've installed a Mag-Stik Plus and, while I love the convenience of the 4/8 way switching from the top panel, and the general feel of the joystick, the stock switches are REALLY loud.

I replaced them with a quieter set that I had laying around, but it's still fairly noisy.

Has anyone ever tried, or heard of someone trying, to use leaf switches and somehow convert the Mak-Stik from a microswitch to a leaf-switch stick?

Or, failing that, does anyone know of a totally silent microswitch? I've tried a few that claim to be, but they're still clicky...

I replaced the switches in mine with the micro switches  from paradise arcade, I believe they are 20 gram and they are really quiet.
You have to trim the actuator levers to make them work. It does seem to want to hit the diaganols too easily so I may have to reduce the size of the part of the stick that makes contact with the switches.

We have recently changed to Cherry switches on these sticks which are much quieter.

Hey Andy, since the Mag-stiks already contain a magnet (I presume on the handle, though I suppose it could be a stationary magnet beneath the handle) have you considered making a model with hall-effect sensors instead of using microswitches at all?  Doesn't get much quieter than that.   ;D

This would not be practical with the Mag-Stik but we already have a silent switch-less stick, the Ultrastik 360.
