J-stick, Sanwa?
« on: September 27, 2003, 03:52:29 pm »
I've read that Ultimarc's Jsticks are the sticks used in Naomi cabinets. Are they the same sticks made by Sanwa? I've used Naomi cabinets and the jap balltop stick they use do not have round motion and you can feel the corners of the square when you move the stick. Is it the same with J-sticks? And with Sanwas? And finally, do you know if the official dreamcast stick has rounded motion or you can feel the corners as in Naomi cabinets sticks?

I don't have a swana stick.... but I do have a couple of J sticks...

in 4 way, you can only move in diamond shape....
(well... but the travel to UDLR is the same....
so, more like a square rotated 45 degree....
not like a sharp diamond....)

in 8 way.... its more like a square.....
yes... square.... which means... if you want to go up...
you'll have less travel than if you want to go diagonal....
and you'll feel the diagonal easily....

(but sometimes..... I have problems feeling the UDLR....
I'm an intense player... I used to move the stick hard....
and sometimes, I over powered... (and my direction is a little off and I ended up going diagonal when I just want to go like up or down....)

but this might be just me.....

But I have to say this....
the stick is very good quality.... and J stick has the same mounting as Happs super / Comp.... which is VERY good....

hope it helps...
Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p

Ultimarc's J-Stick is a Sanwa built stick.

http://www.sanwa-d.co.jp/p_joy-stick3.htm

nearly all japanese style sticks have this square feel inside w/ the corners. The Agetec/Sega Dreamcast stick, Namco, Hori all have this feel inside since they use a japanese style stick.

Seimitsu is another company that makes joysticks. Theirs feel the same but have slightly different internals for switching from 4-8 way mode.
