Has anyone bought from dirt cheap trading?
« on: March 25, 2012, 12:54:56 pm »
They seem to have some good prices and I'm going to be starting my first project soon.

Anyone ever buy from here and know how they are?

I just bought a joystick off them on eBay. It came quicker than I expected. I'd buy from them again.

Hahaha that's pretty awesome! What joystick did you buy? I'll be picking up a set of like 8 hap buttons and i'm trying to decide on the joystick, i'm thinking I might get the 4/8 way red ball Zippy joystick.

I bought the Happ 4-Way Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga Replacement Joystick and am happy with it. I was expecting it Saturday, and it came Thursday. This was shipped cross-country, as well.

I have a Zippy 8-4-2-Way I lent to a friend. I don't miss it.  ;D

I like the zippyy as a dedicated 4 way.  Wouldn't use it as my 8 way.  In all honesty, i think it is better built than Happ/il sticks.

I just bought a zippy and the microswitches were crap. Big waste of 10 bucks.

Yeah, I actually met up with the guy who runs it in person last week and bought a few small parts.  Looks like he's got a bustling business going on.  He went out of his way so I could save a few bucks on shipping, so thumbs up there...

Buy the zippyy from GGG and get the soft touch switches.   Very good

Okay, so I'd like a ball stick, should I go with that Zippy with the http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=371 smooth joy switches?

Or would there be a much better quality buy with something else?

Those are the switches I was referring to.  Are there better stcks?  Yes.  Are there better sticks for $10?  Not many.

I bought a zippy and I thought my keyboard PCB was acting up. It turned out that two of the microswitches worked about 99.95% of the time. Out it went.

What would your opinion be for a good ball joystick for 10-20$?
if not any, would I just be better off with a normal joystick like the happ ultimate (or something of the sort)?

I would not recommend the Happ Ultimate.  A decent American style joystick would be the IL Eurostick, Happ Competition, or the Happ Super.  A good balltop Japanese style is the Sanwa JLW.  What will you be using it for?

Yeah, I was just throwing that name out there because I didn't know the name of that style of joystick :P
BUT!
I will be using this on a bartop arcade system to play many different games.

I always think that bat top joysticks look to tall in bartop builds...I dunno, maybe if you mount them below the panel to shorten them.

So yes, I would go with a ball top joystick : )

What are the top ball tops out there? One's relatively cheaper.

I have and got what I wanted for a great price.  Shipping was also way faster than I anticipated.  Would definitely buy from them again.
