Soul calibur cab *updated* abandoned.
« on: March 21, 2012, 03:01:10 pm »
yea i thought that would get your attention. so I had my first cab delivered today. ill be uploading pics soon ATM i have to pick up the gf. it is a soul calibur cab that the board is said to work on it but the monitor needs to be replaced. nice thing is it is already drilled for 6 buttons. this cab was something else at one time as i can see a Lil over lay beneath the one on it

*update*
So my cat decided to get on the cab again, and knocked the neckboard off again. this time he broke the neck it self on my 27in tv. so im stopping this project selling the cab and starting work on my showcase cab. project thread coming soon

Nice!  I look forward to seeing the photos.  Is your cabinet the showcase/pedestal type, or is it the standard style cab?  I'm guessing standard if it use to be something else at one time.

seems it was a KI2 cab before. still wish that pcb in it. even the coin box says ki2 on it. here is a few pics sorry no full cab pics the room it is in isnt very big and the machine is bigger than i thought. i turned it on but didnt get anything no picture or sound but the marquee and one coin slot light up nothing on the monitor or from the speakers so not sure if the pcb even works. there was still a service tag hanging inside from 2005. saying the monitor needed a flyback and a c34. not sure if it was done or not. guy i got it from said it needed a new monitor but that the board worked

Looking at the jamma pinout for soul calibur i noticed alot of extra wires that wasnt needed and wires that was needed that was cut off at the end. seems i might have to rewire the jamma harness.

So i scrapped the cheap arcade stick i was building for the moment to reuse the PCB for it in this beast. As you will see i didn't do to bad a job of doing my keyboard hack soldering. the wires that run towards the bottom of the pic are the ones that only have one place to go save for the two black wires that are reused from the old jamma wiring that wasn't needed. the wires going towards the top of the pic are the wires that have more than one spot to connect to so they will be run to the circuit strip i have and from there ea wire will get its own connection. i got a pic of the whole side of the cab wasn't easy in this Lil room. not sure what kind of cab it is but i know its ugly. The last pic is of the 27in Panasonic TV I'm gonna shoe horn into the cab after i get a remoter for it and adjust the screen settings. more info to come soon time to sleep

Took out the monitor and put the lil 19in tv i got for free. got all the wiring done on the controls and had to hook it all up and see what we had. so the down on both controllers didnt work and after checking and double checking the wiring two cherry switches was bad. replaced those and button 2 wasnt working moved the wire for it and it started to work seems i didnt make too good a connection on the PCB for it. fired up KI and some UMK3 (my main reasons for wanting a machine.) this all just makes me want to get that 27in in the cab now. i opened the 27in tv last night as well and it seems with the way the tv is designed the boards all sit on the plastic housing for the tv. So if i take the back off and cut the speakers off i should be able to get it in the cab and maybe mounted on its own mount points. now if only discharging tv didnt scare me. before i knew what they could do i tried to fix a pc monitor years ago and adjust the screen with it in my lap while on and running. it didnt feel too good when i hit the wrong thing.

So I grew a pair of balls and decided to just go ahead and discharge the tv so i could do some work on getting it in the cab. after a heart pounding discharge to which nothing happened. I broke 3/4 the plastic from the tv casing as i was aiming for a simular look to malenko tv mod. tho i wish i could just make my own open frame for this tv that would make it easier to put in the cab. I dont have any pics today as its early and im tired. One thing i did want to make note of was when i took the back off this tv there was a 10pin(or so) white connector on the board right behind where it said pc on the back. it looke like the RGB connector on an arcade PCB. a lil research shows that the bigger models of my tv has dvi connectors. im guessing that is what this is for if not it would be awesome if i could just use a vga to rgb connecter and bam multisync monitor.(yes i know im dreaiming leave me to my dreams) ill have pics of it all tomorrow gonna see if a buddy has the tools i need to cut the rest of the plastic away and see bout a good way to mount the tv.

I know i said a few days ago I would have pics up but the PCB in the cab messed up so i had to spend a day fixing it. here two cabinet pics of the tv in place but i didnt bolt it down yet as i was too tired already fell sleep twice. I did all the modding of the case with a screw driver and a pair of pliers cause I'm awesome like that or something. Since i dont have the remote to fix the major overscan the tv has i got a lil converter box that helps with overscan. it supports up to 1280x1024 tho i think ill stick with 640x480. wont be 480p but when i buy the remote ill be able ot make my adjustments and remove the box from the loop. I now have to find a new place to mount the mobo tray i took out of a pc since i was mounting it agaist the back wall that the tv is now barely clearing. think i might just slap it on the side in the bottom so ill have some room to work on it if i need to. tho i plan on building a new control panel if i do keep this cab. Personally I would prefer to not have to reach through the coindoor to latch the control panel. I still havnt decided if i want to wire up the coin door or not. if i do i will either make it so putting in a quarter does what it should or ill just make the coin return register a coin.
