Bartop cabinets without marquee
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:18:32 pm »
Has anyone built a bartop cabinet without a marquee? If so, what does yours look like? I'm building a bartop for a relative and was trying to cut corners on cost for him. I figured marquee and backlight would add an extra $40 to the entire system.

If you print it yourself you can cut that cost by a ton.  All you would need is a ten dollar light and a small piece of plexi.

I remember seeing one that had the shape for a marquee but had solid wood or mdf there so a marquee was added later by glueing in place.  No light, no plexi and no special printing needed. An added advantage is the shape still allows speakers to be mounted in the area.  If you do away with the marquee area all together it makes speaker placement difficult.

Haven't built it yet, but the MiniBeast is marqueeless. But I also consider it a table top machine vs a bartop...

Wow, those are pretty good plans.  I built one without a marquee (I should stop being lazy and take some pics.), but I figure it will only cost me $20 to add on on so...

I've been considering building one with my gtablet.  I just haven't figured out the best ways to handle the encoder.

But I love the idea of a touchscreen bartop... and a joystick bartop... just not sure if they go well together.

That and if any of the android mame ports are good enough.

I saw one.... I think they called it an icade...

if your tablet has an ice cream sandwich upgrade available, I suggest you use that. It supports connecting xbox360, wii, bluetooth (and ps3 i think) controllers natively...still, games need to add support using the controller libraries.

Froyo supports this via USB.

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
