anybody know what this game is ?
Just a guess, but I think it might be Planet Harriers.

http://www.segaarcade.com/games/planet/cabinet.htm

Sounds like there was supposed to be a Dreamcast port, but it was cancelled when Sega dumped the DC.

Why they think a gutted sit-down cab with no monitor, boards or back door is worth 300$ is a complete mystery to me. [They are] trying to stick it to an overzealous person jazzed up to do a MAME project.

The industry is full of crooks, charlatans, cheapskates and backstabbers. Careful with your money out there, folks.

(Edit- after rereading this post, it seems to be an unqualified, cynical remark. Sorry about that. But the warning stands. I have met some operators that would pull the gold fillings out of their grandmother's mouths for three nickels and a handful of pocket lint. I have no knowlege of this particular seller, so my comments may or may not apply to them-- they may be great guys who are honest and would never pull anything out of their grandmother's mouths (unless she was choking. But that's a different story).

I'd pay about that for it.. if it had boards and a backdoor/rear plexi (dunno what is supposed to be there).. I never played Planet Harriers, but I'd assume it rocks by vrtue of its prequel..

$300-350 for a gutted cab?  Maybe, but not quite that gutted :/

It does look in very good shape, and includes speakers, analog joystick, buttons, the seat, and the seat's sliding mechanism...

I know Happ is expensive, but the seat sliding mechanism goes for over $300 by itself on Happ, a similar seat for $170 without speakers, and an analog arcade joystick for $200.  Maybe driving-style cabs are just more expensive.  (not that I've seen much to compare the price to.  ;))

EXACTLY !
People jump into conclusion without actually thinking about anything.
I think the price is reasonable. If I were to buy(I would build anyway).
And yes,racer cabs cost a lot.Nothing under $1000 around my area.  :P

Well...

Um...

For a few hundred dollars more, you could pick up a fully functional cab from Namco.com. Ridge Racer for $495, Lucky & Wild for $595... That is with a large monitor.

Planet Harriers is only sold as a twin, which means that whoever ends up with that cab is only getting half of it. Notice the lack of coinbox. Notice the writeup on KLOV. If it were restored, what would it's retail value be? If it were MAME'd, what would the resale value be?

I'm not arguing that that isn't a great cab. I think it is, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if it floated my way for 75$ or so. Since it is gutted, I can only assume that the guts ended up in a replacement cab somewhere and there may be something seriously wrong with the old one. Since the game is only two years old and mega-expensive new, something tells me that there is a reason that this cab was gutted (probably) before it made it's money back.

Replacing the monitor and back panel doesn't look cheap. Judging by the hole due to the back panel's absence, it looks as though the back panel is custom fit. Anything ordered from Sega is very expensive. If anyone considers buying this cab, I would ask if the back panel is included. If not, prepare to spend one hundred dollars or more for a replacement.

All I am saying is "be careful". Something seems fishy about this auction to me.

Thanks for that. It made me smile.

Where was it on namco's website where you could find a listing of used arcade cabinets for sale?  I'm digging through their site, but I can't find it.
