Power distro box?
« on: September 27, 2003, 12:27:51 am »
WHat exactly is a power distro box, and do I NEED one?

Also,  If I dont want a switch right now, instead just unplug it, can I just not add the switch and put the wire straight to the power distro box?

Basically I am starting to wire this bad boy up and I dont wanna screw anything up.

SUpplies I have (power wise):

A/C line filter
A/c chord
power supply
and of course pcb +jamma etc

Anything missing?

The power distro is basically just a terminal block with lugs on it so you can tap into power with wires fitted with female disconnects.  Definitely not required, none of my cabinets have them.  Typically the power connections are just spliced in the wire connectors.

An AC power switch is nice since you can just leave the power cord alone, but not necessary.  I have the power switch located just inside the coin door on my cabinets so it is in easy reach and I don't have to pull the cabinets away from the wall to get to the power cords.  With a single cabinet this isn't likely to be a problem, but when you have a couple cabs in a row, it becomes more of a hassle and you see realize the benefit of a separate power switch.

ok ... here's the deal ... for the newer monitors your not going to need a isolation transformer or inline fuse.  Also they come with a power cord to plug directly in a outlet. (unless your monitor manual states otherwise)

its just a terminal block ... basically so you don't have to stuff multiple wires under one terminal ... really a personal perference and not a requirement  ;)

... as for the AC filter ... not neccessory if you pluging your components into a surge protector inside your cabinet ... that better safe than sorry theory  ;D

basically you can make a power cord for your PSU, Monitor (should come with one if you can plug it in directly), and lighting.  Plug all that into the protector and your set.

btw ... how do you like your Deluxe JAMMA harness from X-Gamez (nice isn't it)?

very nice indeed!  I am about to install my monitor shelf, then I will do my laminating, then the t-molding will be installed.  After that.....I start doing the wiring.

I better start working on it....
