Planning a modular 4-player cabinet in the UK
« on: March 11, 2012, 07:14:01 pm »
Hey guys, been lurking  here for a while, finally have the cash to put together a cab. The problem is that all my plans were made in the US, and I just moved to the UK.

The problems are:

  • Moving the cab (I'm leaving this rental next month, and will be in a 6-month lease, so I'll have to move it at least one more time)
  • Sourcing the electronics (I'm on the Isle of Man, shipping can be an issue, and beyond that all the suppliers I'm familiar with are US-based)

As for the first issue, I'm thinking that  I can build a slim cab (the doorways here are... bafflingly narrow), and a separate CP with its own support (basically the area where you'd normally find the coin doors).
That way, the two pieces could be separated for transport. I've looked and looked, but haven't found any similar projects on the forum.

The problem with the existing projects/guides is that the construction materials / fasteners are good for permanence, but I'm a bit worried about integrity and stability if it must be moved. So I was hoping for some ideas/help from you handy types. I'm good with programming and computers, and have some woodworking experience, but nothing like the gurus on this forum.

As for the suppliers issue, I've found some stuff on ebay, but I'm just not sure about whether they are trustworthy. I checked the rules to make sure I wouldn't be breaking any by asking this.If I missed something, my apologies.

Sorry for the long-winded first post, and thanks for all the information on the boards, it's an incredible resource.

~Eric

Plenty of UK based suppliers.  How about Ultimarc?

Sweet, thanks! I just took a look  and that will definitely help from the CP standpoint. I also stumbled across Turnarcades and really like their pedestal design. I want a cab, but perhaps I could start with a pedestal, and then incorporate a super-slim cab later.

Since I'm an electronics geek anyways,  the pedestal would involve all the parts I'd do myself. Thanks for the suggestion.
