Picked up a very rare Williams game today.
« on: March 10, 2012, 07:21:03 pm »
Snagged this one a few miles from my house for $50.

Somehow I have owned 2 of these things, despite the fact that there are probably less than 10 of them on the planet.

It works, it needs some cleaning up and the monitor isn't the best but I can deal with that. I think my other one was nicer but that could also be nostalgia vision taking over.

Man, that is a cool old game. A four player pong with that kind of vintage vibe is something I would love to add to my collection. And for $50?
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Yeah, I need to get it in the basement first. Had a buddy come over to help but he didn't have much time and it turned out it was gonna be a minor nightmare (I am going to have to remove multiple doors in order to get the thing in my basement). So for the time being I put it in the shed (had to take the coin door off to do that!!).

I saw that on CL a while back and can't believe there is no interest in this game.  If I had been anywhere in the area I would have picked it up a few weeks ago when it was listed for $100.  There must be no collector market for it.  BUT holy cow!  Why wouldn't you want this?  It's a certain conversation piece and could rightfully make it's place in any home as a historic landmark.  People buy old tables for more than that!  Awesome you got it for a song...

Pong clones have a weird market. If you just try to dump them then they sell for nothing. They go for a hell of a lot more if you hold them until someone who wants a Pong comes along.

Just plan on doing a low budget restoration on this one. Cleaned up the worst of the spinners today.

Good for you, that's awesome!  Until last week, I have been having a hard time finding deals on anything locally, despite being 30 minutes from Philadelphia.

i still have my first pong clone cocktail after 8 yrs of collecting,..its dead right now (broken pcb neck board)
i never tried to restore it cause i had other arcade deals coming in so fast for so cheap...so i just put it on the back burner..but untill then its gonna stay in my collection for a while. your collection isnt complete without having some sort of old black and white arcade game, it just shows that you can appreciate all eras of coin op gaming,.   heres a pic of my pong cocktail clone,.

OOPS!  i almost forgot!  and of course,.. have to own at least 1- non video arcade as well,..EXAMPLE>

There's been a bazillion Pong clones churned out through the 70s. I've seen them discarded by the *pile*. Had ops try to give them to me for free....passed every time. Even had one goofy op try to pay me with one for a one-off repair I did for him. Laughed and said "I don't think so".
