Hyperspin Admin Buttons/Autohotkey
« on: March 10, 2012, 10:22:04 am »
I have a couple of questions.  Please pardon my ignorance.  As a noob I am trying to resist the urge to add all kinds of admin buttons to my control panel.  I am using Hyperspin as a front end and a keywiz encoder.  What do all of you use for admin buttons on a Hyperspin setup?  I know that I have "shift" functionality with the Keywiz but I am just wondering what everyone uses for buttons.  My control panel will have Player1/2 and Coin1/2 buttons but I also have an admin panel that I could use to add as many buttons as I need.  I just don't like the look of too many admin buttons.  Seems like it would confuse people.  Which Hyperspin functions do you have dedicated admin buttons for?  Which functions do you have setup to use a shift function?

Question # 2 is regarding volume control.  I see two options here.  One would be opening up my amp and trying to relocate the volume knob to the admin panel or to some other discrete location on the cabinet.  It is one of those Lepai tripath Class T amps.  I am not sure how to do this but I am confident that I could figure it out.  The other option would be writing an autohotkey script and having volume up and volume down arcade buttons on the machine to control the system volume.  In reading the Hyperspin doc it seems that Hyperlaunch uses some sort of autohotkey script.  Would I download autohotkey and run the script from windows or does the volume code get added to to an .ahk file in the Hyperspin setup?  Thanks in advance for any input that you may have.

I have 3 admin buttons on each side. Coin/P1/exit on the left then Pause/P2/Coin on the right. I find this is just enough, but not too much. I did not want to use the shift function because I have small kids that play. No matter how well you hide the key press for the admin shift function, there is always a possibility that they will find a way to get in there. I tried to make my cab as "fool proof" as possible. Also by having separate coin, start, exit buttons it helps new players learn the system easier instead of having all these special combos to press.

As for sound volume,  since I do not use the shift function for admin stuff, I have a dedicated keyboard tray which pulls out easily. I simply have my computer speaker controls in there with a piece of velcro attaching it to the keyboard tray. I find only certain games require I lower or raise the sound. If you use the shifted function, MAME has built in volume control that you can map to a shift function if you like.
