Familiar with this multi-game PCB?
« on: March 06, 2012, 08:12:59 pm »
I'm trying to set my brother up with a Robotron, but dedicated Robotron prices are a bit on the high side.

I have an arcade operator friend who's offered me a multi-board that supposedly includes an accurate representation of Robotron. I've heard of other multi-boards (60-in-1, etc.) that don't emulate the original games quite correctly.

My information on this board is somewhat limited, but if anybody recognizes it & knows how Robotron plays (or has any other valuable info), I'd be grateful if you chimed in.

"Classic Horizontal Game Collection"
Brand: ik
1 small, single board
outputs CGA/VGA/JAMMA

Games included:
Bubbles
Joust
Robotron
Blaster
Splat
Rally X
New Rally X
Battle City
Mario Bros.
Ghosts 'n Goblins
Solomon's Key
Gradius
Sky Kid
Ice Climber
Super Mario Bros.
Do! Run Run
Kick Rider

Defender and Stargate are available with purchase & installation of another chip.

Thanks,
-Jason

Looks like what they call a 19-in-1...  it is the same as the 60-in-1 (icade), but is made for horizontal monitors.

Paradisearcadeshop.com has em for sale for $150... dont look like you need to pay extra for Defender and Stargate.

How accurate the Robotron emulation is will depend on what version of mame is running on that board. If it is based on an older mame version (highly probable) then it won't properly slow down when too many things happen on screen at once. Honestly that isn't all that important unless you are going for a marathon run on default settings. I owned the older Jamma multiwilliams board with robotron with the incorrect emulation and it was still an absolute blast to play. If your brother wasn't a real expert then he would never even notice the difference in the first place.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Thanks for all your replies--I've been able to locate much info on the PCB. It seems to be generally well-received, but some also criticize it. It might do the trick for my brother.

Thanks,
-Jason
