I Think There is Something Wrong With My Smart Strip
« on: February 21, 2012, 12:21:28 am »
Ok, in my mame cabinet I have a Smartstrip powerboard with my PC set in the Master port, in slave ports I have my marquee light, monitor & speakers connected. Now this has been working absolutely fine without issue for a good 4-5 months but all of a sudden strange things are happening, every now and then the marquee light will power up and the speakers will pop even though there shouldnt be any power getting to those objects and the PC and Monitor stay off, the first time it happened it scared the crap out me but the strangest thing is now when I turn the cabinet on i get wicked interference lines across my monitor, they were never there before and its gotten to the point where it makes game playing almost unbearable, anyone have any ideas, I guess I should probably try a different board. Would a faulty board cause interference to the monitor?

Sounds to me like there might be weird power surging/spiking in your house/domicile. Occasionally, using a Cyberpower strip (bout half the price, great quality), my machine turns on then turns off, and then I notice my UPSs kicking on - meaning, there was a quick brownout. If you're getting electrical interference, it could be the strip. Or it could be something much worse in your place's wiring/power supply.

Play with the little screw/dial thing on the side of the smart strip.  It probably needs to be turned a little bit more.
