USB SNES controllers, anyone have them?
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:02:00 pm »
Would like to add some SNES controllers to the bartops I'm planning.
I have seen the various adapters but just spotted these..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SNES-USB-CONTROLLER-Retro-PC-MAC-SUPER-Nintendo-NEW-/270782026483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0bddd2f3

Since I don't have any original controllers yet it seems like a good solution.
Anyone own them already? Would appreciate feedback before I buy. Feel free to suggest something else..

Thanks

No experience with those here. But I did buy some aftermarket NES controllers with 10' cords for my NES off ebay since the cords on the stock controllers couldn't reach my couch. The controllers were junk. I took apart my controllers, desoldered the cord connections from the PCBs, and swapped the longer cords to the stock NES controllers... MUCH better. My advice would be to find some original SNES controllers and use the USB kits from RetroZone, or if you don't want the hassel of the work, just buy the ones they've converted to USB already (but they're pricey).

I dont have any exp with the ones you posted. I use a smart joy adapter with an original controller. I also have an aftermarket replica of a snes controller which works but the feel is garbage. I played way to much snes in my days and as soon as i held the aftermark one i new it was right. My original plan was to mold the adapter into the from of my cab so i can plug the snes controller straight in.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Think I will try the pre-modded controllers Nephasth suggested, if that place gets them restocked..

Several years ago I got some NES and SNES (authentic) converted USB controllers from here:

http://retrousb.com/

Looks like he might be outta stock of some of them right now.  But I would recommend buying from him.  They are excellent!

I bought a Buffalo brand USB pad off eBay. It's superior to the generic pads (unfortunately, bought one of those too) and prob as close as u can get to the original controller. It's a little lighter, but otherwise a decent pad. I'd reccomend it if u can't find a good OEM pad.

I have the retrousb kits in one sega genesis controller and two nes controllers. I found that the pic chip on them tend to get very hot and at times, the pc will stop recognizing them for a while. Happens in multiple PCs i try them on and during extended gameplay (ie trying to beat a game) I did put a small heatsink pad on my genesis kit and i haven't had any issues since. I need to find some small silicone heat pads for my two nes controllers.

I have a couple of these and they work pretty well:

They aren't oem snes quality, but close, and for the price it's not a big risk to try them.

Original controllers from a thrift store and the adapter I used for my SNES project worked absolutely perfect for me.
