Mala - really weird behavior since installing ArcadeVGA card
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:34:51 pm »
I have a custom mala layout, vertical, 480x640, that was working perfectly on my test monitor (LCD). Since installing my ArcadeVGA card and new 19" Arcade Monitor, two strange behaviors have occurred that I can't figure out. Mala and Mame work perfectly with AVGA card, except for these two issues. They are:

1) I have Mala set to shutdown Windows upon exit. When I hit ESC to do so, the PC freezes for about 5-10 seconds before displaying an error message saying (roughly): "VPU Recover has reset your video card to software rendering because the card has stopped responding to commands..." The only option at this point is to reset the PC, which is not a good option as I want the cabinet to shut itself down when Mala closes.

2) My layout works perfectly, until you play a game. Once you exit the game (any game) and come back to the layout, the gamelist is messed up. Specifically, it is shifted down a few inches and to the right an inch or so. It is a graphic gamelist, using marquee images rather than plain text.

Neither of these things happen on the test rig/monitor.

Anyone have any experience with these problems, or have any ideas? Andy at Ultimarc wasn't sure either, which means it's likely not a problem with the AVGA, right?

Don't know on #1.  On #2, if you haven't already, go to options/gui/game start & quit and check the box for reorder layout.  this is good to try when your layout is messed up on game exit.

Thanks, I checked the "reorder layout" box, but still no luck.

To make this even stranger, the gamelist now moves as soon as I do anything at all. In other words, when Mala starts up, everything is perfect. But if I hit the joystick in any direction (to choose a game, to switch gamelists), it moves. It used to be that the gamelist looked correct until AFTER playing a game.

Any mala experts out there?
