ROBOCOP V TERMINATOR MINI- DONE!
« on: February 12, 2012, 02:31:08 pm »
Well having not quite finished my full size project, i thought now was a good time to start another!

This is based around a tv plug n play megadrive/genesis console.

This thing has 10 games built in, but also plays any region carts.

I decided on Robocop versus The Terminator theme as this is one of my fave console games.

Got a 4.3'' screen, the type used for rear view cameras.

A 12v Li-ion battery which will run everything.

Love the side-art.
Do you have any more sauce on the joysticks you found. Manufacturer details, anything. They look perfect for mini's.

Thank you.

i came across these randomly on ebay. there's no manufacturer markings on them.  this is the who i got them off
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360429206013?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

i'll try and contact the seller to see if they know anymore.

i was going to use the one from digikey that's been popular with minis, these are slightly larger and suited my build more.

by the way mungo, love your pacman mini!

the guy on ebay was also selling some micro controller/pic stuff, and i noticed you know a thing or 2 about Arduino's.

so maybe the joysticks are available around those parts?

Got round to ''finishing" this little bugger.

Turned out ok, I was very happy with the side art and the mini 8 way stick.

Still need to wire up the cp to the hacked game pad, but my soldering iron has crapped out so waiting for my new one to arrive.

I ended up wiring everything to the board (video/audio/power) as using the jacks just took up too much room.

All powered by 12v rechargeable lithium-ion battery with i/o switch, so can put it anywhere. I left it running for 7+ hours before the battery ran out.

Still to do- find some small angle for marquee retainer

T-molding strip (i found painting it a colour didn't look great. may use some shelf edging strip)

Maybe illuminate the marquee (i left some extra wires for led's just in case)

All in all it was quite fun making, and plays pretty good too.  but if i made another mini id probably use a GBA.

It will most likely sit on the shelf after the novelty has worn off.

Now back to my full size project...

Great work. Absolutely love the side art.
I used a GBA for my first mini, a 7 inch pac-man - can't say I enjoyed working with the GBA too much.

Thanks Mungo.

Im well aware of your pac-man mini- it was a great inspiration!

I know you had trouble with the screen at first, GBA can be quite fiddly.

I may go slightly larger next time (if i make another) and use a psone with its 5'' screen.
