...or some other name- WIP.

Man there are some nice cabs on the forum right now!  OND's ongoing beauty, American Ace, and Matinj's MvC3 baby to name a few.

Its the latter that has inspired me to build my own upright cab.

After a couple of hideous attempts a couple of years ago, I settled on a bartop (which im still very happy with) but that full size beast was still in the back of my mind.

I have always loved classic Taito cabs, and wasn't intending to, but ended up using lokesen's plans again (my bartop was a Wee-cade spawn)

I'd been doodling for a couple of weeks, then the other morning woke up, went out and bought MDF, and what follows is after a 13 hour cutting frenzy!

Toying with button options.

Sanwa- are a long time trusted fight-stick friend 'O mine

But concave Happ/ IL arcade buttons scream old-skool nostalgia...

You're off to a great start. I'll throw my vote in for the concave buttons.

Thank you sir.

Yeah I'm leaning toward the concave.

I'm putting a PS3 and PC inside, and the sanwa's are only in mind for some hardcore MVC3 action, but i have fightstick.

simply connect it to you ipac, one cable ground - the other swX. you can place it everywhere you want, bottom or sidewall is a good idea. just test it.

Got my slot cutter from T-molding.com today (Monday)  I wasn't expecting it to arrive for a few more days, great stuff!

Anyway i got down to some routing and cutting, I was a slot cutting virgin, but no more!
(I cant believe i was worried, it was the simplest and most satisfying routing i've ever done!)

So here's what i did today.

Gave my £1 coin door a fresh coat of paint. Cleaning up the parts too, its so cool!

It came without the frame, so i'm making one out of plywood.

Went round with the router to make both sides the same.

T-moulding slot cut.

Rear vents cut (i didn't ruin it with anything too fancy, they will have mesh inside)

Front accsess door, which will have the coin door, volume knob, and a couple of usb ports on it.

2.1 Speakers

And the resulting mess!

I definitly want to laminate and found what i think is a good place/deal

http://www.selffit-worktops.co.uk/products.php?product=Formica-Laminate-Sheet-3050x1300mm-6469-Sea-Blue-delivered-rolled-and-boxed

I'll probably need two lots if i want the back of the cab done too.

I've not really thought of artwork yet (but deinitly plan on having side art, cp and marquee), but in the mean time want it too look nice with just laminate

Here's a rough (very rough) idea, or may reverse the colours, ie. white laminate, blue t-mold?

Love the design... man, painting is a chore. I would definitely consider laminate for my next cab.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Thank you!

I painted my first bartop, which I didn't mind, but after seeing some of the great laminated cabs on the forum, it was a no brainer.

Loving your pacman cab!, keep up the good work.

Bit of an update…

Changed a few things, decided against the laminate in the end (i'm sure i'll regret it), found some grey paint for floors.
It gives a nice hard wearing and smooth finish (although i still need to apply a couple more coats)

After test playing for about half an hour i realized that i'm not a kid anymore and need to sit down!
So i chopped about 20cm of the bottom so its sit down height.

Which is an added bonus for playing console/emulators with a pad.

Speaking of game pads, i've kinda borrowed ideas from several projects. A 2 port snes - usb hub, and 2 dreamcast extention ports on  the front.  Along with the volume control

Still a little rough in places, I haven't hammered in the t-mold properly (need to get a rubber hammer), and need to adjust the control panel (or may make a new one.)

But... sitdowns are designed with leg room in mind. Isn't that going to be an issue? Also, is your control panel loose or is it actually sticking out further than the T-Molded sides?

I have tested it with a couple of friends and it seems fine, i'm happy with the leg room.
There's not as much room as say a Naomi or an Egret.

The cp isn't secured in the photos thats why it looks funny, it will stay within the t-mold boundaries.

I've actually kept the cut down pieces, i may make a nice flush base box, should i ever want it at standing height.
