Gamepad-keyboard help/clarification
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:21:08 pm »
Hiya folks - I'm back after an over-long hiatus (long story - I'll be updating my build thread later tonight).

I'm confused about getting games to recognize my keyboard as a game pad.

You see, my current build will have an extensive library of indie PC games like SuperMeatBoy, Voxatron, Bastion and others (I'll be posting a list on my build thread).

Now most of these games have no problem being re-configured for use through my KeyWiz - my current challenge is Bastion, you can configure for keyboard control, but it still requires a mouse.  So I tried configuring it for "Gamepad", unfortunately, when I try I get "Gamepad not detected."

Now I'm sure there a way to circumvent this by tricking Bastion into believing my keyboard is a gamepad. My google-fu has failed me and I haven't been able to find a solution, though I found many for getting gamepads to work on my PC, but I digress.

Does anyone know of a way?  Let me know.

Be seeing you,

WonderAlex

I made sure to hardwire two of my CP buttons as right and left mouse buttons.  That way I can always access mouse functions with the buttons and a trackball.  MAME has no problems mapping to mouse buttons so no issues there.  If you have a trackball or spinner you should be able to do the same for mouse buttons.  Or you could hack a cheap gamepad to wire in a couple of buttons.

Not exactly what you were asking for, but a possible alternative.

Thanks - but you're right it's not quite what I need. I already have all three mice buttons mapped to buttons (though I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of the middle mouse button).

I had an idea this morning that I'll have to wait to try later tonight that involves my spinner - it all depends how Bastion targets.

Be seeing you,
