Saving High Scores
« on: September 22, 2003, 02:02:02 pm »
I am having some trouble getting the high scores to save on some of my MAME games - it seems to save for some and not others.  In particular, I am having an issue w/ Ms PacMan, but there are others as well.  Can somebody explain why this may be happening, or maybe just explain how the high score saving works?

Yes, I have HISCORE.DAT and I've configured it correctly in my .ini file.  However, it is still inconsistently saving the data.  Do I need to exit a game in a certain way to make this work correctly?

That I don't have an answer to.  I consulted the highscore.dat page (http://www.mameworld.net/highscore/) and don't see anything about it there.  Ms Pac should be saving it's scores.  Maybe consult with someone there?

Sorry if I am hi-jacking the thread, but are neo-geo games supposed to save highscores?

They don't seem to for me.  Some of the ones I've tried are the Metal Slug series and Puzzle Bobble 1.

See the site I just referenced.  You'll need the special nvram files for those.

Also make sure none of your directory or file permissions are set to Read Only.  This could be a problem if you copied the directory structure over from a CD.

Also, try deleting the gamename.cfg and possibly the gamename.ho or gamename.nv files for that game and then re-setting the dip-switches, and key assignments, analog controls.

This fixed a problem I was having with Centipede scores getting out of order.   Not sure if it's related, though.  There's a thread about the Centipede problem on the software board. (somewhere)

Oddly enough, Centipede was the game one one of the games that I looked at and said "Why is this one working an Ms Pac isn't?".  I'll mess around with it some more tonight.  If I can figure it out, I'll post my findings.

Thanks

When I get a high score on pacman and exit, it doesn't save it, but if I play another game before I exit, it saves it.

Actually, if I just enter a coin after my score, it saves it.  I don't know about Ms. Pacman, but could be the same thing.

I'm glad someone brought this up. It seems that every highscore gets saved except for Ms. Pacman on my setup.

I'm using advmame on Win 98se.

I figured Ms. Pacman just didn't work.

It'd be great if someone could tell me how to get Ms. Pacman saving since its the most popular game at my house!
