Free Play Switch
« on: September 21, 2003, 11:43:39 pm »
My cabinet is finally done.  I guess I should say playable, now it's time for the tweaks.  I have a coin door that works, but I also have a button for coin1.  I'd like to put in a switch inside the cab that disables my button to force the use of quarters.  Would a regular single pole light switch work for this or is there a better way?

I also wanted to thank everyone here. I used this site a lot the past couple of months.   When I have time to build a site I'll share some pics.

Thanks.

Any switch would work. I wouldn't use a light switch though. Go to the auto parts store and get a nice little switch that will be easy to mount somewhere inside your coin door.

It shouldn't take more than about 5 minutes to install. Just wire the switch to the "coin1" wire going to your coin button.

I did that in my cab.  I got a pull-chain switch, normally used for lamps on the ceiling, and I love it.  I open the coin door, reach inside and pull the cord, and it toggles.

It did require getting a little piece of metal to mount it in, but you should be able to find a little corner-bracket with the right size hole.  If not, use a sturdy drillbit and drop some oil on where you're drilling, and you can go through metal pretty nicely.  (that's what I did.)

My plan, when I (someday) build a cabinet, is to use of those key locks from an old PC case (the kind that lets you turn a key and make it so no one can type or mouse on your computer).  I can leave it on the outside where it's easily accessible, and a turn of the key can activate or deactivate the Coin1 and Coin2 buttons.
