Cruis'n World dedicated keeps rebooting
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:05:12 pm »
Damn, this thing has played perfectly for months...

Now it starts, the rom check screen completes fine, everything loads & a few seconds after "insert coin" pops up it reboots.

Do you guys think its the power supply or a board issue?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Check yer pwr supply voltages *at the board* first and make sure they are where they should be. That game uses a hard disc right? Your drive may be corrupted/failing. If it resets at the same place everytime, that says to me its looking for the next piece of code and can't find it. So the CPU detects the fault, it crashes, and the watchdog resets the whole works.

If I'm mistaken and it uses roms and not a HDD, reseat *all* of them. One or more may not be making good connection on 1 or more pins. You don't need to remove them from the sockets, just pry them up some on one end, push it back down and repeat for the other end.

Right on, thanks for the reply.

The first reboot happened after about 3 hours of being on. The 2nd was after 20 minutes. Then #3, 4, 5 & 6 were all within 20 seconds of the insert coin (but not at the exact same second or etc).

Now it runs fine.... until the next flare up i fear.

Prior to the thing working again fine I actually pushed on all the chips & unplugged/plugged all the connectors together.

So far so good but I have a feeling this is far from over.

Man, stuff like this makes me want to stay away from pins & dedicated machines. Emulation never breaks!

Thanks again BoardJunkie!

CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY!  :whap

Midway games need a good +5.1v to run well. Test the power where it enters the board right at the jamma pins on the board. Also check the +5v DC line using the AC setting on your DMM. You should see no AC or something lower than .02 vAC on a good power supply.
