HyperSpin+U360 problem
« on: January 12, 2012, 03:33:39 pm »
I think I am down to my last problem in getting my machine 100% now that I have the TV situation resolved. When I go into Hyperspin, I set up the controls so that I could use the U360's (Connected via USB). When I pressed up it said "Analog Up" and so on... However, when I try to use the joysticks to select games, the joystick won't turn the wheel. The buttons do work to jump ahead and select, but the joystick is a no-go. Anyone ever encountered this problem?

Are you buttons connected your U360's I/O header?

You have a knack for making me feel dumb  :embarassed: I am not sure what that means.

Are you using your the U360 as a button encoder as well? Using the harness from Ultimarc to connect your buttons to the U360? Or are you using a separate encoder?

Oh, I am using the Ultimarc harness.

Are you using a 64-bit OS like XP64 or Windows 7? Apparently there's some kind of bug. Cmoses posted this question EVERYWHERE, and no one seemed to have a definitive solution. My solution was just to assign an xpadder profile to Hyperspin. My U360s send keyboard presses specifically for Hyperspin. This actually is beneficial, since you can then use the keyboard delay (makes navigating MUCH easier).

The weird thing was the keyboard delay only seemed to work for the arrow keys (not letter keys), but that wasn't a problem since I had xpadder assign the arrows to both joysticks.

If anyone finds a better solution that actually allows the U360 to work without aid in Hyperspin, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks! I have never used an Xpadder before, but I will install one later.

It's worth the $10 (or whatever it costs now). It helps with a lot of the other non-MAME emulators too.

That sounds like a great solution to an issue of mine as well. My buttons go to a separate gamepad encoder. So in order to use my U360 with the buttons to control Hyperspin, I have to assign P1's joystick to P1's joystick ID in Hyperspin and P1's buttons to P2's joystick ID, leaving P2's controls useless in Hyperspin. Assigning P1's and P2's joysticks to keyboard directional arrows through Xpadder well let me assign their buttons to the correct joystick IDs in Hyperspin, allowing P1 and P2 to control Hyperspin. Thanks for the lead, I'll definitely be giving it a shot!

I have two u360s (although using an IPAC for buttons) and am running Hyperspin in Windows 7 64-bit and the joy stick seems to work fine for me... is this a problem I'll run into in different themes or if I update to a certain version of Hyperspin where the stick won't move the wheel??

People on this and Hyperspin forum have noted that the problem is in XP64 and Win 7 (mostly XP64), but I'm curious -- are you using the latest Hyperspin? I'm wondering if it's a problem with 1.2 (not that I'd downgrade just to just joystick support back -- too many other improvements!).

I couldn't recall whether I applied the v1.2.0 patch, so I checked the Hyperspin.exe's version and it does indeed say v1.2.0, so I guess that means I did! I don't think I ran the earlier versions before updating, so I've only ever used 1.2, and don't think my joysticks have ever stopped working in the application. Does it only happen to people who use the joysticks encoder?

By "encoder", do you mean the ultrastik software or the harness that hooks up buttons? I actually use a JPAC with no harness on the U360.

I haven't tried updating my U360 in a while. I'll try giving that a shot soon.

Sorry to bump an old thread. Has anyone found a solution to using U360's and Hyperspin with 64bit OS's? Mine were working fine until just recently and now I'm having the same issues noted here. Don't really want to go the Xpadder route and reprogram my buttons.

I was able to fix mine last night through a little trial and error. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone but it's certainly worth a shot so i thought I'd post a reply.

My U360's only ever worked in Hyperspin when the device ID's were set to 0 and 1 respectively. I couldn't find a way to manually change the device ID's in Windows 7 so I just started experimenting with moving the USB connections to different usb ports on the hub and back of my pc until the P1 joystick was finally 0 and P2 was 1 and now it seems to work fine again. I also set all of the keyboard commands (except Enter and Escape for Start and Exit) to '-' and disabled keyboard delay though I'm not sure this had any affect.

You can easily see which usb ports will give you which id by hooking up a couple joys in addition to the U360's in other ports and hitting Reset ID in HQ and then a button on the joystick. Then you can program up/dn/lt/rt by moving the joystick and test in HS to see what ID's work for you. Also remember to close and reopen Hyperspin after each time you set the ID's in HQ.

Hope this helps.
