Where can I find a shaft extender? :-)
« on: January 07, 2012, 01:16:35 am »
...for Sanwa JLF joysticks?  :lol  Trying to mount them in wood and need a bit more length.  Routing and top mounting isn't a good option for this application so I need to bottom mount.
I'm looking for something like this:
http://www.shadaloo.eu/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=&product_id=126&category_id=7&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=14
This is literally the only one I can find.  I checked the local hardware stores for something similar, but even Ace didn't really have what I was looking for.  Longer shafts are also available but they are $15 each.  Anyone know a source for these in the US?

I made a couple of shaft extenders that look just like that.  I started with a piece of brass tube, tapped the ID and used red Loctite to secure a short length of threaded rod about half in and half out of the tube.  I think I got all the parts I needed at McMaster Carr.  I'd have to check to see if I have part numbers if you're interested.

I knew about the full longer replacement shafts but I've never seen extenders like these available before.  I wanted to be able to change stick lengths on the fly.

Another option would be to make your own extender with magnetic attachments similar to how Le Chuck made his removable flight stick in this thread:

ETA:  I made mine for JLW sticks.  Not sure if JLFs would be the same size.

Lizardlick.com, that's where I shop when I need Japanese arcade parts.
