Just like the subject line would love to find as much information as I can before I decide what Control Panel design is right for me if any at all.

I haven't come across any. You might look at KLOV, but they seem to be more geared to restorations and maintenance than custom builds.

I like to learn by example, I just go to the project announcements board here and look for cabinets that are along the lines of what I want to do, then I pull what I like best from those projects.

As far as other forums, there isn't much else out there that I know of. This is the site for DIY acrade controls. Shoryuken forums might have some control panel design stuff specifically for people who are into fighter games, and primarily for using with console systems. They would pretty much be 1 player stuff as well.

I went through the 'Control Panel Database', stickied thread, and copied pictures of all that I liked for one reason or another.  Then I compared them to my needs, wants and restrictions.

Another great site, for examples of what you might regret, is Crap Mame.

+1 on that. I think I've still got the folder with all the prints I made when I was first researching this stuff...

The control panel thread is probably by far the best resource on the net today for what you are asking.

My control panel was somewhat influenced by this guy, who in turn had based his on the Supercade panel.

I didn't want or need a full 4-player panel, but I did like the flexibility that the two-deck design gives.  So I designed a smaller two-player version but with the two-deck style.  I haven't yet mounted anything to the upper deck, but I just received in the mail the analog stick (same one as in the link above in fact!) and I have a dedicated 4-way I'll mount up there as well.  And I just found a dead hard drive that I'll scavenge a bearing out of for a DIY spinner.

I really just want a joystick that can be shift keyed so the computer can see it as one joystick and than another to reduce clutter.

I cannot understate the importance of a good CP design.  I spent a lot of time researching this one.  I simply did Google searches on "Mame Cabinets" and "Mame Control Panels" and found a good selection of items to look at.  Based on the games that I prefer to play, I came up with this as my design.  Ditto on slagcoin.com for some detailed information.  After reading through that, I changed my button layout.  I also opted for Mag Stik Plus joysticks because I liked that they could switch from 4 way to 8 way.  Now that the cab is up and running I will say that the layout I chose is working great for me.  Everything is easy to reach and comfortable to use.  I used CP Sketcher to draw it out and would recommend it prints out a nice sheet with the button locations specified.  As with any control panel, there is compromise and in my case I opted not to have a trigger stick.

I cannot get cp sketcher to load on my computer. I personally don't care how bad my CP is as long as its terrible in all the ways I want it to be.  Not that I want it to be bad but I rather build my own disappointment than someone else's dreams.  I hope you all can understand.
