trackball mounting..?
« on: September 19, 2003, 03:01:46 am »
Ok heres the deal I have a 3" imperial trackball and I have the mounting plate and everything else needed to mount my trackball.  Heres what Im going to do Im going to router out my CP for the trackball but Im wondering if this is going to make my CP to weak and just break the wood.  I dont know maybe Im underestimating the strenght of partical board, but it seems like its pretty weak for someone to be slamming there hand down on it for Golden Tee..  So to all the experts am I worried over nothing??? Thanks

Don't use particle board then. Use plywood. Most real games that had wooden panels had plywood ones.

It could be ALL real games as far as I know. I just know that every wooden panel game I have ever owned or examined used plywood.

If you're using 3/4" particle board, you should be fine.  Make sure you don't route too big a hole, and to leave the cutout corners rounded.  Hmm, it also depends how big the CP is, and the support it rests on; best to have at least 2-4" wood above and below the TB, and have the cp rest on a strong support all the way around.

Plywood is much stronger, though; you could get away with a little less of everything.  [shrug]

Have a look at the attached picture.  Something you might want to think about trying.

I think Im going to build alittle trackball foot mount so the trackball is sitting on solid wood instead of just floating I think that will solve my problem.. Thanks everybody

I wondered when someone would catch that.  :)

Check this shot out for a better idea of my trackball mount.
