QUESTION: IPAC PS/2 to Playstation 2 to Xbox 360
« on: December 16, 2011, 08:47:05 pm »
Long time creeper here; just started my first (showcase) cab (sorta) based on the Dynamo plans posted on here.

Firstly, thanks to all of you who have posted your projects an thanks to the mods for keeping this site up!

So here is the question...

I found a youtube video shown here...

I really like this guys set up (as opposed to hacking a couple 360 control pads) and would like to duplicate it with my control panel.

I only need 2 controllers (as shown in his video) but I am not 100% sure that the current USB IPACs will work for this, if anyone has insight I would appreciate it.

The guy in the video did not do a good job linking or explaining what the "adapter" he shows at 1.00(min) into the video is.

Do any of you guys who have been at this a while, know that that was?

Its my assumption that he has it set up like the following, correct me if you know otherwise...

Control Panel <direct wire> Jpac <PS/2> Playstation 2 Adapter <????> XB360 controller Adapter <plugged into front USB> Xbox 360

Lastly, if anyone with IPAC4 experience can let me know if you can use the both of the PS/2(or usb) outs at the same time that you are running 4 sets of controls in.

The reason I ask this is because in my gaming Nirvana I would like to just leave this all hooked up in the cabinet and just use a KVM to change video source.

I have attached a terrible MS paint picture that shows what I am asking with a little more clarity.

Thanks so much in advance! Have a great weekend!

I don't think the USB and PS/2 outputs on the IPAC function at the same time.   It is probably one or the other.

Single output, rats! This was my Fear, I thank you for the reply!

Would you happen to know if you toggle between them using just software or if a jumper on the board is the only way?

I am sorry to wast your time with such trivial questions, though I do appreciate ANYONE who selflessly helps nubs like myself.

The I-PAC auto-detects the interface, no jumper needed. Soin theory you could have some kind of switch although running USB through a switch might cause problems. But I am not totally clear why you would need to run both or switch between them?
One way of switching between a console and PC using our adaptors is use a KVM switch. This can switch PS/2 and also the video and sound. This means running into the PS/2 port on the PC though.

Or is this not what you mean?

Thanks for the response Andy!

I assumed a KVM would be needed for the video signal, but I thank you for the input none the less!

I was wondering if the crappy set up I had created at this link
would allow me to have 2 of the control panels  sticks/buttons going straight into the XBOX360... (via PS/2 adapters) ....while at the same time (via USB).... have all 4 control sticks entering my PC for use with 4 player emulation.

I think it will work, but I was looking for anyone who had though of this before and tested.

It seems like this would be WAY faster, cheaper, and easier than hacking a couple of XB360 Control Pads.

If not, I can be the first one to test once all the wood working is done!

Looks very familiar.

Oh, I didn't know that they improved their adapter to not require a wired official Microsoft 360 pad connected. Are these lag free as the etokki ones though?  :dunno

Perrfect, ty fellahs!

I'll order one set up and test for lag and report back!

I cant test with the control panel until I get it built of course but I'll make sure to post the results.

Boy howdy, this is an awesome community.
