KeyWiz Help
« on: September 18, 2003, 04:26:21 pm »
HI,
I just got my keywiz, and I am trying to test the same.
I am testing with just button. I have the ground and otherwire connected properly. I don't see any response from keywiz. I have uploaded anything into, because I believe it is usable off the shelf.
Iam little clueless.
Please help
Thanks
-vishwa

What are you using to test it with?  MAME?  Something else?

Have you tried other buttons?

What model KeyWiz?

It is keywiz max,
I am trying to type something on the command prompt.
I tried other button/pin combination.

I have connected the button keystroke 1, then connected it to 2, but no use

In the default codeset, keystroke 1 is Left Ctrl, and keystroke 2 is Left Alt, so you won't see these on the command prompt.  Try like 5 or 6 which are Z and X, or get one of the key display programs from the utilities page http://www.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_downloads.shtml#Utilities like Keyjammin' or Ghostkey or KeyScan.

Actually, it is not the first pin, It was the pin supposed to be number 1 as the default configuration.

Correct, that is L Ctrl and won't show up at the DOS prompt.  (You mean the terminal labelled 1 which is the top left corner of the board when the KeyWiz label is facing you, correct?)

Move the wire down 5 spaces to the terminal labelled 6.  The button should generate "X".

I don't know why the uploader software isn't working, though.

(Or do you mean the terminal labelled I which is supposed to generate 1?)  In that case, I would recommend e-mailing RandyT.

I Had done similar to what you have suggested, when I meant, 1 , I meant KEYSTROKE 1, not the left top pin. but the ninth pin at the bottom.
In fact I tried other pin locations too, none worked :(

Hope I get this fixed, can't wait to finish this project

Thanks anyways

The cable out of the KeyWiz is plugged to the Center connector, not the left connector (with the label facing you), correct?

What position is the switch for the keyboard pass-thru in?  Try changing it!

The first thing I thought of was: "Is the damn switch in the correct position?"

Easy to test - if the keyboard works - the switch is in the WRONG position for testing and using the KeyWiz.

On three of my computers it is behaving wierd, but when I connect it to my laptop, it works perfect.

Two of my computers have ECS k75sa MB with Athlon XP processors, the one in my arcade machine has ECS k7vma MB with Athlon 1GHZ.

Now I know that the Keywiz works (At least on my laptop{intel}), on one of the AMD machines, it responds to 1 in 5 key presses.
This evening I'll run more tests and try to find out more, BTW for the questions about switch position and connections, Randy explained to me exactly what to do.

Even though I am sad that my Keywiz is not yet working, I am happy that I bought it, the support from Randy is very good.

Thanks for all the help
