Cleve-Land Coin Op thing
« on: September 18, 2003, 04:13:10 pm »
Anyone going?  Anyone else want to admit they live near or in Cleve-Land?  I know of a few of you who do...

Cleveland Rocks Coin-Op thing

I actually saw this posted from the mame newsgroup by someone called "Kevin Steele"....maybe he'll post a review of the event :)

I have 2 concerns:
1) It costs 20$ for admission - WTF?!!   and...

2) I probably won't have my BYOAC hat by then to show off :(
(no offense to Pixelhugger, of course)

Damn.  I wish I had known about this a few weeks ago.  My parents live out in Sandusky and I'll be making a trip home to visit for a few days NEXT weekend.  I'll miss it by a week.  If I had known, maybe I could have adjusted my plans.  Oh well, I guess I wouldn't have lugged a purchase back to Minneapolis anyway...

Looking at the dealer pictures I only saw one dealer that had any games shown anyway. Looks to mostly be a bunch of soda machines, slots, and general 50s coin op equipment.

Plus I am betting that dealers that are paying for display space will not be cheap. Probably won't be any deals there, and certainly no empty cabinets.

I'm in Canton.  This does seem interesting... but I'm with you, $20 to get in... screw that.  Especially with the Super Auctions in Columbus next weekend (its free).  Anyone else going to the Columbus auction?

Is the superauction free?

I'm in cincinnati... I might try to go!  But we have a friend coming down for the weekend... I might not be able to get free... even for 1/2 a day.

And I'm broke..  That always hurts... I know I will find a few perfect items... and not have 2 cents to bid on them...

But I might go just to see what they are like!

If you have the time and the vehicle then ALWAYS go to the superauctions. You can usually walk out with SOMETHING for $10 or $25. Failing that, then just hang around in the parking lot and talk to people afterwards. Sometimes people buy cabs for the monitors and pull the monitors and leave the rest of the game in the parking lot, and other times people buy too much stuff and have to leave something or sell it for almost nothing to whoever is standing around.

Failing ALL that, if you are just looking for empty cabinets, just talk to lots of people at the auctions, you will likely find someone who lives nearbye who will give you an empty for free.

Anyone ever go to any of these?

Reason I'm asking is that they dont seem like they will sell any non-working machines or parts.

The items I would be looking for they probably would have.

Is Super Auctions the one that has all the slot machines (pachislo)?
If so, I may head down and pick one up.  My 4 year old thinks they're pretty neat right now.

Down here in Texas they had Loads of video poker machines & the actual slot machines (pull the lever & watch them spin...)...

I would assume they have a lot of them every time from the way they spoke of them.

Superauctions always have tons of Pachislo slots, and don't pay more than $100 for them. A few idiots at each auction usually pay $500+ for the first few, then the next half dozen sell for $200ish, and then they quickly drop to $100 or less.

Also, you will quickly want to toss the thing out the window the first time you hit the bonus round. The loudest noises you have ever heard and it does not stop until the bonus round is played out. You can turn it off and then come back and turn it on 3 days later and it will be right back in the bonus round where you left off, and the bonus round can go on for a LOOOOOOOONGGG time.

A quick question concerning superauctions that maybe one of you could answer.

There's one coming to Milwaukee and I want to go, however I was doing a search for other coin-op auctions (google) and a listing I found indicated that there was a 13% buyers premium for superauctions. Is this correct, or am I looking at another show at the same time in the same area. The superauctions website does not say anything about additional charges.

Do any of you know about this? TIA

Yup...
13% premium...
Plus tax... So you have to consider all of this when you're figuring out how much you are willing to bid on an item...

I've only been to 1 super auction (I usually hit us amusements also in columbus oh).  Here's some answers to questions.

1.) yeah its free

2.) yeah they add 13% to your hammer price.  ($100 winning bid nails you for 100+13 +5% tax=119.22

3.)there were a ton of pachislo last time I went.  I got one for 85 bucks for christmas present.

4.)there were very few parts around.  But they did have a "dead" row where junk cabinets or partials went for nothin...

If anyone is going to go for sure (I am)... IM me.  I wouldn't mind meeting some BYOAC people.

Are guys thinking of the right machines?  I have *never* seen a Pachi- anything at a SuperAuction.  I have seen slot machines and video slots.  Pachislo are pachinko machines with the video or 3/4-reel slots in the middle for bonuses and what-not.

If so.. damn, why do they always just bring the cheap stuff down here? :(

well  I am no operator and don't know but I thought the pachi-slo machines were slot machines.  Although unlike the Vegas one-armed bandits, the japanese machines allow you to stop the reels individually.  I have one and there are no marbles in the thing like pachinko.  Everything I have read on the Japanese slots call them Pachi-Slo.  Maybe there is some language thing that doesnt translate right and thus we are messing up the names... Anyone speak Japanese?

So clear me up if I'm wrong... Pachislo is a slot machine right?
