Pushbuttons with mini programmable screens in them...
« on: November 25, 2011, 11:14:35 am »
So I went to the casino they other day, and they had a few new slot machines.  One for The Hangover movie, and another for The Amazing Race tv show.   All the buttons on these machines had little screens in them that changed based on what was happening in the game.   So sometimes the line of buttons would scroll the letters "you win" across all the buttons.  Other times they would say the standard "bet 1", "collect" etc on them.    I hope thats a sign that something like this will be available to us some day!   I was looking online to see if I could find spare or replacement parts for one of these slot machines, so that I could get a hold of one of these buttons, but I couldn't find them.   Even if I did, I have a feeling that I'd never figure out how to program the little screen to display what I want to anyway.   Also, they were square buttons, so they wouldn't be ideal anyway.  But they were at least comparable in size to our normal circular push buttons.    Anywho, I just thought they were pretty amazing little buttons and I hope to see that some day in the arcade world!  Someone get some and figure out how to program them for me!   ;D

They have been around for a while but I have never seen them in use.   Original price was very high but if companies start using them the price should come down.   http://www.screenkeys.com/

Well at least the mystery is solved where those buttons came from, thanks BobA!   Man...they are sweet.  I hope they come down in price some day!  And you know, come out with a round version!

Came across this while googling this subject.

Looks like it would be pretty sweet for PC games. Not worth the price though. Actually a little surprised this isn't common for every computer today.

Yeah that is pretty sweet
the 3 button one looks like it could have been useful for something too bad it's sold out

the screens are OLED like in cell phones.  There is a keyboard that has a screen in every key too.

Edit: was beaten to the punch :)

Not much benefit for me on the querty keyboard thing, since I don't look at the keyboard or number-pad when I type.  Obviously, it could be huge for a complex mame rig.

Thanks for posting about the screen-buttons.  I saw those at a casino as well, but wasn't sure if they were actually changing or I was just that tired.  I know I can't afford buttons like that, but I look forward to seeing them in somebody else's machine.
