Drive

Very, very interesting, if flawed movie. Ryan Gosling plays a mechanic who moonlights not only as a movie stunt driver, but also a getaway driver. I guess the dude likes driving! What I found most impressive straight up was the way we are introduced to the main character, played by Ryan Gosling. It felt a little bit like Eastwoods 'man with no name', and in fact this character has no name  ;D . Early on there is a real sense of quiet malice, there's a better way to say it, I'll add it when I think of it. But then are are some very graphically violent parts, which I thought didn't completely relate to the feelings I had at the start of the movie. Actually there are two problems, the second is not the fault of anyone involved in the movie (except maybe casting). When I sat down in the cinema, there seemed to be a lot of women. I actually thought I had accidentally gone into a Twilight screening or something :duckhunt. But it turns out, teh wimmings dig Ryan Gosling. A LOT. So it seems many of them were there just for Ryan, and not necessarily to see a crime thriller. The problem then stems from this. Each time there was an exceptionally graphic scene, they would all laugh. It's not a comedy, and the laughing kinda ruins the immersion.

Ryan is great I must say. This role shows he likes to mix it up. He hardly talks in this at all, quite a contrast from Crazy, Stupid, Love. Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) was brilliant too, although it's probably not a far call from Breaking Bad for him. The exceptionally cute Carey Mulligan was good too (",)

4/5

Oh, and as I was getting up to leave the cinema, I heard a 'clink' and a 'splash'. A middle-aged woman had smuggled in some wine and a glass! She really was having a date with Ryan...
