Hardware Stretching in Dos Mame

Can the config file be set up to allow hardware stretching in dos mame or is it only a windows dos feature ?.

If it is not available in dos mame are there settings that can be changed in the config file to achieve the same effect ?.

Can dos mame be set to cover the whole screen with vertical games ?.

The video card I was going to use is an ATI 32mb Radeon VE DDR DVI+TV running dos mame.

Only a WinMAME feature, AFAIK.

If you're using a PC monitor, I used to do this: http://www.mameworld.net/emuadvice/display.html , but it's a royal PITA.  I was glad when hardware stretching was added.

Using the procedure above, yes.

Big Question:  Why do you want to use DOS MAME over command line MAME (Win)?

I did manage to find the link you gave me but as you said it does look to be very complicated. I was going to have a look at advancemame for dos to see if that has a feature to simulate hardware stretching.

I was planning on using dos mame so that I am able to turn the system on and off by one switch without having to go through the windows shutdown procedure. Although configuring mame in windows is far simpiler. I might try to find out a way to shutdown and startup windows by just pressing one switch that does not damage the file structure.

AdvanceMAME will probably do it (wasn't sure there was a DOS port).  I think MAMEWAH has an option to shut down Windows on exit.  If not, you might ask about that.  I'm sure others are doing it somehow.
